How to use essential oils

We’ve been using essential oils in our homes for years and there are old hippies out there that have been using them for even longer than us! Through the years we’ve picked up a ton of tips and tricks to use your oils without having to break open your wallet.

When we first started this business, we thought long and hard about which essential oils are household essentials. I tend to sway back and forth between favorites but I do have some staples that are great for laundry, cleaning, mood enhancement, skin and hormones!

Here’s a Hack A Day With Some Easy Recipes For You To Try:


Place a few drops on a hot lightbulb to diffuse oils in the room to improve your mood, promote sleep and help with hormones. You can also place a wet wool sock with a few drops of essential oils in your vent.

Sleep Promoter:

  • 3 drops lavender
  • 1 drop frankincense
  • 2 drops clary sage


Add some oils into your shampoo, dish soap or hand soap. Depending on how you mix it, it can be used to wake you up, get the most effective clean or add some relaxation to your day.

Minty Mix:

  • 2 drops cajeput
  • 2 drops peppermint
  • 3 drops lavender


Instead of using horrible bounce sheets, toss in a damp face cloth or old wool sock with 5 drops of essential oils for every load.

Mood Balancing Blend:

  • 3 drops clary sage
  • 2 drops grapefruit
  • 1 drop lavender


To wake you up or calm you down in the shower, put a few drops down the drain before you get in. Bonus, the essential oils will help to clean your drains too!

Invigorating Shower Blend:

  • 3 drops eucalyptus
  • 3-4 drops grapefruit or lemon
  • 2 drops peppermint


Mix 1/4 cup of olive or avocado oil with 5 drops of essential oils and add it to your bath to add to your relaxation while delicately cleaning sensitive areas.

Skin Enhancing Relaxation:

  • 3 drops lavender
  • 2 drops clary sage or grapefruit
  • 1 drop frankincense



Mix 10 drops in a small (250ml) spray bottle or an empty yogurt container with 1/4 cup of vinegar and 3/4 cup water. Use this for cleaning countertops, tabletops, toilet seats and even mirrors.

DIY Cleaner:

  • 5 drops lemon
  • 2 drops grapefruit
  • 3 drops cajeput


Use oils in your appliance drawers instead of soaps or to enhance your soaps. Put no more than 3 drops in your fabric softener part of your laundry (more may strip color). Put up to 5 drops in your soap compartment of your dishwasher.


  • 3-5 drops of lemon or grapefruit


  • 3 drops of lavender, cajeput or lemon
